• On the main page of the website, the applicant has to click on ‘online services’, choose ‘driving license related services’ and click on ‘new learner’s license’ from the other given options.
• The page will be redirected to the online portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways - Click Here
• The applicant has to then choose the state in which he/she will be taking the learner’s license test. Choose ‘Uttar Pradesh’ from the drop-down menu.
• He/she has to then click on ‘apply online’ on the left-hand side of the page and choose ‘new learner’s driving license’.
• The applicant should then download the learner’s license application form and fill in the required details.
• Once he/she has filled the details in the application form, the candidate has to self-attest the form and upload the form by clicking on the upload tab on the website.
• The application form along with the relevant documents and recent passport-size photographs of the candidate has to be uploaded.
• Once the candidate has uploaded all the required documents and the application form, he/she should make the payment for the application and the learner’s license test.

Offline process

• The learner’s license candidate has to visit the Regional Transport Department in his/her jurisdiction and procure the application form for the learner’s license test.
• The applicant should then fill in the application form, affix his/her recent passport-size photographs and self-attest the application form.
• The application form must be submitted along with age and address proof documents for verification.
• If the Regional Transport Officer approves the submitted application form and relevant documents, he/she will request the applicant to make the payment for the application and the test.
• The applicant has to then book a slot for the written test.

Documents required to apply for a four wheeler learner’s license

To pass the learner’s license test, the applicant should get majority of the questions right. If he/she clears the test, they will be issued the learner’s license. If not, the candidate can take the test again in 24 hours. To apply for the driving license test, the candidate will be required to submit the original learner’s license document. 30 days after being issued the learner’s license, the candidate will be eligible to apply for the permanent driving license.

The learner’s license is valid for a period of 180 days or 6 months, and the application for the permanent driving license should be made during the validity period. Lastly, since the learner’s license document is essential to apply for the permanent driving license, if the learner ‘s license holder loses the document, then one will have to apply for a duplicate learner’s license. This can be done online or offline and the candidate will have to submit an FIR from the local police station to prove that he/she has indeed lost the document.
